Eagle Butte Men Sentenced for Burglarizing Residence

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that two Eagle Butte men charged with Second Degree Burglary and Aiding and Abetting were sentenced on July 16, 2012, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Lawrence Oakie, a/k/a LBJ Oakie, age 30, was sentenced to 20 months in custody, 2 years of supervised release, $10,000 in restitution, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund. John Rousseau, Jr., age 29, was sentenced to 24 months in custody, 3 years of supervised release, $10,000 restitution, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

Oakie and Rousseau were indicted by a federal grand jury on January 18, 2012. The conviction stems from an incident in November 2011 when they unlawfully entered a residence in Eagle Butte and stole multiple items that they could sell to others or pawn.

This case was investigated by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, Law Enforcement Services. Assistant United States Attorney Meghan N. Dilges prosecuted the case.

Oakie was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal to begin serving his sentence. Rousseau will report to the United States Marshal’s Service on July 20, 2012, to begin serving his sentence.
